Kells is a sandy beach in a rural environment with a small harbour/ pier. The area is rich in flora and fauna and is located within the Killarney National Park, Macgillycuddy's Reeks and Caragh River Catchment Special Area of Conservation (SAC) and proposed Natural Heritage Area (pNHA).The beach is also located within the Iveragh Peninsula Special Protection Area (SPA).

Kells is an idyllic harbour on the northern coastline of the Iveragh Peninsula. Kells is located approx. 11km north of the town of Caherciveen off the N70. This beach is not lifeguarded but lifesaving equipment is available.
